- Investigate necessity of MD1 vs ZERO using YETa 2023 data [completion:: 2024-10-15]
- Investigate what happens if we put an MD1 + 3x ZERO + SFTPRO and watch hysteresis loops [completion:: 2024-11-12]

The measurements from last year were a bit borked, since we accidentally didn’t place an MD1 after the LHCPILOT…
So we only look at the SFTPRO1s after LHCPILOT ends. In this case we take the last 10 SFTPRO1s from each dataset and plot the nonlinear parts of the fields, and the difference between each pairwise SFTPRO1, without and with MD1

the supercycles in the experiment
but indeed the first one is borked because it’s preceeded by a ZERO,
for the other ones we see indeed that the SFTPRO1s are indeed on different hysteresis loops, if there is a ZERO or MD1 in front
Most significantly we see a delta when there is an MD1 in front of the SFTPRO1, and the field is 1G lower than in we have a ZERO in front
And then the difference goes to zero at the beginning of the ramp, and then increases to a maximum of 1G again in the middle of the ramp
but on the ramp down they are within 0.3G difference. Given the shape of the difference, I’d reckon it could be due to dynamic effects
what would be interesting is to do an experiment the next time the machine is offline and play an MD1 like cycle, and then put a few zeros, and then SFTPRO1, because in that way we can see if it’s the hysteresis or the dynamic effects
